CAPA Announces Strategic Pause of “Paint the Town” in 2026
The Children’s Art Preservation Association (CAPA) announces the decision to pause its annual Paint the Town event in 2026 as part of a broader effort to thoughtfully refresh its organizational mission and strengthen its volunteer and sponsorship base.
Paint the Town has long been a cornerstone community event, made possible through the generous commitment of dedicated volunteers and sponsors. In recent years, however, participation and sponsorship have declined, impacting the event’s overall sustainability and limiting CAPA’s ability to fully advance its mission. Proceeds from the event directly support CAPA’s community initiatives, including scholarships, art curriculum assistance, and art-centered beautification projects.
This temporary pause will allow CAPA to build a stronger foundation for the future - reimagining the structure of Paint the Town and developing more sustainable pathways for financial and community support.
Planning is already underway for the return of Paint the Town in September 2027, which will mark the event’s 30th Anniversary. CAPA invites community members to get involved by joining a planning committee or volunteering for the event. Those interested are encouraged to respond via CAPA’s social media channels with their name and contact information.
The Paint the Town Board and the Children’s Art Preservation Association extend their sincere gratitude for the community’s continued support and understanding. CAPA looks forward to welcoming participants back for a vibrant and reimagined celebration in 2027.

EST
1994
For one Saturday in each September, Morrison’s downtown is transformed into an outdoor canvas for hundreds of artists of all ages who gather to “paint the town.” The Children’s Art Preservation Association created this unique family arts festival as a way for the community to come together and enjoy the arts. The focus of the event is the painting of blank squares and circles on and around Morrison’s Historical Main Street. The number of squares painted has grown steadily from 250 squares at PTT's debut in 1994, to more than 1,500 squares painted by 2,000+ individuals. Annually, more than 6,000 people attend the event to enjoy the painting and art, variety of entertainment, and great food! Each year, CAPA creates a uniquely designed t-shirt to express the vibrant and colorful energy of the yearly theme of each Paint The Town. For years after, many celebrate the event and their favorite themes by wearing the memorable apparel.
